About Myself

lecso01I was born on 3rd September, 1973 in Hungary, Central Europe. I became a registered swimmer of my home town Zalaegerszeg in 1980. Of course, in the beginning I was a pool swimmer, and I mostly performed butterfly stroke.

  • My first determining competition was on Lake Balaton in 1989 between the towns of Balatonfüred and Siófok (12.5 km). It was there that I took a fancy to open water swimming and this affection lasts up to the present.
  • In 1991 I entered for a 35 km contest in Greece. It was my first international contest and I came runner-up! From then on I payed special attention to this kind of competitions.
  • From 1993 I trained in our capital city, Budapest, under Csaba Tóth's direction. From 1993 I took part in more and more competitions. My first World Cup started that year in Italy, and other events followed in Germany, Serbia, Greece and Egypt, in various scenes like the river Nile and the Suez Canal.
  • In 1996 and 1997 I participated in the South-American World Cup in Brazil and Argentina, where I had to swim series of long distances. In river Paraná, for example, 88 km!
  • In 1998 I returned to Zalaegerszeg and prepared for new trials of strength. I concentrated on European contests, namely in the Netherlands, Belgium, Croatia, Serbia and Greece.
  • In 2003 I competed in the North-American World Cup, where swimming competitions are held mainly in cold lakes. In my opinion, these are the hardest trials for long distance swimmers.
  • Within this series I managed to complete a trial of strength in Atlantic City, the very hardest of all: 39 km in the cold ocean, and then a long struggle against the current.
  • The event I have never missed from the very beginning is the Mediterranean Cup held annually in Greece, between the cities of Kalamata and Koroni.
  • In 2004 I was given the freedom of Koroni, Greece.
  • Since 2005 I train under Nikos Gemelos's direction.
  • The fruit of our long joint work is my 2008 achievement: without stopping once, following the rules of long distance swimming I swam across Lake Balaton between Balatonkenese and Keszthely. It took me 25 hours and 32 minutes to complete this distance of 79.6 km!
  • Naturally, this is the achievement I am most proud of.
  • My home town also acknowledged my results and I was awarded a prize “For Zalaegerszeg”.
